2003 Sea Smoke Botella
Sea Smoke, named after the fog that blows from the ocean through the Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County, burst on the scene three years ago and continues to garner acclaim for its complex, estate-grown Pinot Noirs. Winemaker Kris Curran used labor-intensive, traditional methods to craft this seductive '03 wine, which overflows with tangy blackberry and raspberry flavors.
At Sea Smoke we believe that the vineyard is the wine. For this reason, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on our estate vineyard. Our emphasis is on the meticulous management of each vine, employing a combination of cutting edge technology and a highly skilled vineyard team.
Our winemaker, Kris Curran, works directly with our vineyard crew throughout the growing season. Each of our ten clones of Pinot Noir is hand harvested and brought to the winery for hand sorting. Each clone is then kept separate throughout the winemaking process, enabling Kris to develop an intimate knowledge of each barrel. These individual barrel lots form the basis of a complex flavor palette from which final blending decisions are made by the Sea Smoke winemaking team. This results in wines of exceptional complexity and grace - each one, we believe, is a reflection of the unique terroir of our estate vineyard. We hope that you agree and we welcome your comments.
